Board Director nominations now open until 24 October

Osteopathy Australia invites nominations for Board Director positions - a unique opportunity to make a lasting contribution to the advancement of osteopathy and strengthen the future of our profession.

With the term of current Director Brett Wiener concluding at the end of 2025, we are now seeking committed, capable, and forward-thinking leaders to join our Board and help shape the strategic direction of the organisation.

Why apply

We are looking for osteopaths who bring not only professional expertise but also a breadth of perspectives and experience that will enhance our governance and leadership capacity.

While experience in university systems, education, communications, promotion, or government relations is valued, we are particularly encouraging applications from candidates with one or more of the following:

  • Information technology or AI expertise
  • Confidence in representing the profession in external forums
  • Engaging communications strategies to build connection and community
  • Clinical, academic, or research experience within osteopathy or allied health
  • Experience working in regional, rural, or diverse practice settings (including but not limited to outside Melbourne metropolitan areas)

The Board has resolved, under Constitution Clause 30.3(a)(ii), to apply these criteria to broaden representation and strengthen the governance capacity of Osteopathy Australia. While all applications are welcome, preference will be given to candidates who meet one or more of the above. As a result, some applicants may not be selected to proceed as nominees in the election.

About the role

Board Directors provide strategic oversight, set the organisational direction, and ensure compliance with legal and fiduciary duties. Directors are expected to:

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of the organisation’s strategic plan
  • Uphold the highest standards of governance, integrity, and accountability
  • Represent the interests of members and the broader osteopathy profession
  • Participate actively in Board and committee meetings (held regularly online and in person)

Serving as a Director is both a rewarding and challenging experience, offering opportunities for professional growth and leadership development. Osteopathy Australia provides training and support to help Directors make meaningful contributions within and beyond their tenure.

Who we are seeking

We seek osteopaths who are altruistic, strategic, collaborative, and innovative — professionals who excel in practice and bring valuable insight and leadership potential to the national Board.

Applicants must be current financial members of Osteopathy Australia with voting rights, and must meet eligibility requirements under the Osteopathy Australia Constitution and the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth).

Key information

  • This is a volunteer position; Directors are not remunerated, though reasonable expenses are reimbursed.
  • Please review the Board Introductory Guide and Position Description before applying, as the role carries significant governance responsibilities.
  • Directors serve a minimum 3-year term (max 2 terms) and attend approximately 6 Board meetings annually, including strategic planning and AGM activities.
