One of the easiest ways to increase the load speed of your web pages is to ensure your images are optimised.

  • Full-width: which is between 1920px and 2400px
  • Colum width (optional): The centre portion of the website 1290px
  • Half-column width: 600px to 700px

Shrinking the dimensions of these images may not be enough to reduce the file size significantly.

  • These images will need to be compressed or converted to a format more suited for images on the web. WebP. WebP is a modern image format developed by Google.
  • Transparent WebPs are 26% smaller than transparent PNG and 35% smaller than a jpg with the same quality. You can increase the quality of your image without adding additional file size.
  • They can be animated, and because they are smaller, they are faster and improve your SEO score in lighthouse.
  • A full width image can shrink down to a 75kb WebP, with quality equivalent to a JPEG at 250kb.
