Pain management

An Osteopathy Australia titled 'Pain Management Osteopath' is an osteopath who can demonstrate long-term commitment to sustained practice in the prevention and management of persistent pain through continued educational obtainment and in clinical practice.

They will have proven knowledge and skills in all areas of occupational health including but not limited to:

  • Knowledge in different clinical conditions and diagnoses that can influence persistent pain and mimic neuro-musculoskeletal disorders.
  • Knowledge in physiological and psychological responses associated with acute pain, as well as of deviations to normal response ranges.
  • Adept in preforming pain assessments
  • Knowledge in evidence informed intervention strategies for neuro-musculoskeletal contributors to persistent pain and their relatives and absolute contraindications.

Titled osteopaths have completed extensive further study and proven work experience in their field and have been independently assessed to meet the required standard.

Please note that we are currently undertaking a review of the extended and advanced practice program. Until this process has been completed, no new applications will be accepted. Re-credentialing applications will continue as usual.

Tertiary Pathway

  1. Candidates should download and read the advanced practice pain management quality practice framework to better understand the broad knowledge, skills and capabilities required within each focus area to see if they will be able to meet the membership criteria.
  2. Read the pain management application pack and use the below templates to complete the required paperwork:

  5. Send completed paperwork to [email protected]
  6. Await determination, approximately a six-week turnaround

Vocational pathway

  1. Candidates should download and read the advanced practice pain management quality practice framework to better understand the broad knowledge, skills and capabilities required within each focus area to ensure they will be able to meet the membership criteria.

Recredentialing process

Recredentialing process

To ensure that our advanced practitioners continue to maintain, consolidate, and grow their knowledge and skills in their recognised focus area the recognition period will be valid for three years with the titled practitioner needing to undergo reassessment to remain titled. This process should be completed before the three year expiry to ensure titling does not lapse.
