About this Course:

This course is based on the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) Guide to health privacy (updated 9 May 2025) and is designed to help keep patients’ personal information safe. This course is designed to help clinicians develop awareness about privacy and protect personal information

Module 1: What is privacy, what are the principles of privacy and why do they matter in clinical practice?

This module aims to provide you with an introduction to the Privacy Act and some of its key concepts. Participants will learn about:

  • The legislative framework governing privacy for Australian Government agencies
  • Key terms including personal information, sensitive information, health information and consent.
  • Identifying and explaining the 13 Australian Privacy Principles

Module 2: Privacy action plan for your health practice

This module sets out the key practical steps you should take to meet your privacy obligations and protect the personal information you hold.
