Held at Victoria University, this two-day workshop explores a systematic and comprehensive approach to managing a variety of common shoulder dysfunctions. Participants are taught a simple to follow (step-by-step) assessment, treatment and clinical reasoning pathway to assure successful clinical outcomes.
Workshop spaces are limited to the first 20 registrants.
PLEASE NOTE: The Osteopathy Australia office will be closed over the Christmas break from Monday 23 December and reopening on Monday 6 January 2025. Discounted tickets cannot be purchased during this break.

Workshop agenda:
DAY ONE | DAY TWO |
---|---|
1. Establishing treatment goals and priorities with your subjective assessment. What questions are we trying to learn? | 1. Simplifying the assessment of scapulae dyskinesis and recognising the muscle imbalances that drive the common dyskinesis |
2. Assessing the patient’s meaningful functional movements. Analysis of the symptoms. | 2. Assessment of the scapula mechanics under variable conditions: at rest, with movement and under load. |
3. Performing the essential range of motion tests. How do we accurately assess shoulder joint motion and what tests and objective measurements are most relevant? |
3. Successfully utilising the scapula reposition test and how it influences treatment choices. |
4. Assessing upper limb neural tension and establishing a meaningful score / objective measurement to monitor changes in neural tension in response to manual therapy. | 4. Soft tissue palpation and soft tissue release techniques for the muscles influencing scapula position and general glenohumeral mobility. |
5. Assessment of the cervical and thoracic spine and the implications of spinal involvement in upper limb pain, restriction and dysfunction | 5. Understanding the precise role of the rotator cuff muscles and recognising common imbalances in the function of the cuff |
6. Questioning the value of classic orthopedic tests. Which tests are relevant, and which tests have limited value? | 6. Establishing a systematic approach to strengthening the region, including scapula stability exercises and rotator cuff strengthening. What are the most effective rehabilitation exercises for efficient return to function? |
7. Moving away from pathoanatomical diagnoses and a discussion of the challenges of excessive medical imaging. What value are the scans? | 7. Practicing an extensive spectrum of functional strengthening exercises and formatting exercises into complete focused workouts. |
8. Understanding labral pathology and the implications to management and prognosis. | |
9. Instability tests and the unstable shoulder. How do we test the integrity of the specific ligaments of the glenohumeral joint. |
