Response to Edith Cowan University announcing a new osteopathy degree

Edith Cowan University (ECU) will become Western Australia’s first osteopathy educator, and one of only four nationally, with the School of Medical and Health Sciences offering a Bachelor of Medical Science (Osteopathy).

ECU to become the first WA university to offer osteopathy course

BREAKING NEWS: Osteopathy Australia is delighted to announce the establishment of a new osteopathy course at Edith Cowan University (ECU), marking a significant milestone as the first osteopathy program in Western Australia.

We have worked diligently towards this goal since 2019, and discussions with ECU have been ongoing since 2022. We are deeply grateful to the ECU team for their remarkable efforts to bring this project to life. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with ECU and seeing the first cohort of students enrol in the coming years.

A special thank you goes to the Osteopathy Australia New Course Committee, chaired by Michelle Funder, alongside Brett Vaughan and Antony Nicholas, whose dedication has been instrumental in this achievement. This initiative will significantly contribute to the growth and development of the osteopathic profession in Western Australia, addressing workforce needs while enhancing the quality and scope of care.

We are excited about this opportunity and will continue discussions with other universities to pursue similar outcomes. Osteopathy Australia remains committed to expanding the profession nationwide, increasing university courses and enhancing the recognition and understanding of osteopathy within the broader healthcare landscape.
