Dizziness is a common, yet challenging area of practice. Although Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is the most common type of vertigo or dizziness, there are other causes of dizziness you may encounter in your practice such as vestibular migraine, Meniere's disease, vestibular neuritis, persistent postural perceptive dizziness or serious central conditions. This course will briefly revisit BPPV in the context of differential diagnoses.
You will learn the pertinent anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology including the concept of ‘vestibular compensation’, and acquire the skills to perform the relevant oculomotor, cerebellar, and HINTS+ examination for the purpose of diagnosing the above conditions and ruling out ‘red flags’. A rudimentary understanding of vestibular conditions is favourable but not essential to attend the seminar.
