The Research Pathways Mentorship Program seeks to promote, encourage, and support research culture and leadership in osteopathy. The Program will pair osteopaths interested in research (mentees) with established researchers (mentors) experienced in osteopathic research. The aim of the mentoring relationship is to facilitate the mentee's career development and research capabilities through access to one-on-one support from an experienced researcher. The Program would be beneficial to osteopathic clinicians who are new to or interested in including research in their career journey; and university students studying osteopathy who are interested in research. It will provide an opportunity for clinicians to seek guidance on potential research pathways, the transition from clinician to clinician-researcher or from novice/non-researcher to more experienced researcher, and guidance on participating in research and developing research ideas and questions.
Expressions of Interest (EOIs) now OPEN.
The Program will run for 12 months (between March 2024 and March 2025).
Exact start and end dates will be negotiated between participants and the program manager.
Eligibility (Mentees)

We recognise members with an extended scope of practice validated through panel review.
In this submission, we focus on how the Scope of Practice Review should aim to achieve affordable and universal access to best-practice health services and value for the consumer and health system. Osteopathy Australia advocates for every Australian to have access to high-quality healthcare and support, regardless of where they live. Australians also deserve to have access to funded osteopathy. This will drive better health outcomes, improve the utilisation of our healthcare resources, and help overcome the inefficiencies in primary care. There is a significant opportunity within osteopathy to leverage existing skillsets and scope of practice to address system inefficiencies and reduce the burden on other health practitioners.
In this submission, we focus on how the current health workforce distribution levers are ineffective and not inclusive of allied health professionals or the wider health workforce.
