Submission: Review of the My Health Records Legislative Instruments

Our response to the Review of the My Health Records Legislative Instruments

Submission: Review of the My Health Records Legislative Instruments

The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing is conducting a review of the various My Health Record (MHR) legislative instruments that are due to expire in 2026. The review aims to determine whether these instruments remain valid and fit for purpose or if adjustments are needed.  As a part of this process, a public consultation period was held, to which we provided feedback on behalf of you.

Why is this important?

The MHR legislative instruments govern how the system operates and how health practitioners engage with it.  Any changes will directly impact how osteopaths can use the MHR. Ensuring our members’ perspectives are represented helps secure a system that supports, safe, effective and modern practice.

Our feedback highlighted the need for:
  • Updating restrictions on who can upload and share specific health information, reflecting the evolving role of allied health and the increase of first contact practitioners.
  • Improved information and educational resources to support allied health practitioners in understanding and using the MHR effectively.
  • Better system functionality to make access and information sharing easier and that this is genuinely fit for purpose.
