Spinal Manipulation Workshop Presented by International Technique Lecturer Peter Leach
Practical Technique Skill Development
Join us for a hands-on workshop introducing the ground-breaking T12R® technique teaching system developed by Peter Leach. This system helps students break down any manipulative technique into its fundamental components, simplifying the learning process and helping student hone and refine their skills in each technique.
Learn more in less time with skill set focused learning
The T12R® system speeds up the learning process by helping osteopaths quickly identify which components of a technique need work and how to refine them. It can be applied to any technique style. Whether you want to improve a technique you already know or master a new technique you have only read about in textbooks, this is the seminar for you.
Minimal Leverage Technique
This course focuses on Combined Leverage techniques (CLT) in each area and then looks at how you can modify and adapt each technique using the principles of Minimal Leverage technique (MLT). We will cover cervical, thoracic, and lumbar manipulations in various positions.
Lecturing experience
Peter Leach, a former technique lecturer at the British School of Osteopathy, has over 30 years of experience. He has lectured on various topics to osteopaths, general practitioners, medical specialists, and the general public.
What we will cover
- Combined Leverage HVLA (CLT) and Minimal Leverage Technique (MLT)
- Supine Cervical spine manipulations using cradle hold and chin hold approaches for both side bending and rotational manipulations; we will also look at cervical joint manipulation in an upright position.
- Thoracic spine and rib manipulations in supine, prone, and upright positions including the ‘dog’ or ‘cuddle’ technique with adaptations for different body size and shape. ‘Lift-off’ techniques in sitting or standing, and both of these approaches modified for ribs as well as what Peter describes as the ‘corkscrew’ techniques for the ribs.
- Lumbar spine manipulations in side-lying and upright positions including side bending and rotation variations and modified ‘lift-off’ approaches.
- We will also cover how important stance, posture, and body movement are in reducing fatigue, increasing proprioceptive feedback and improving technique efficiency.
- We will do a review of the latest research in safety protocols and considerations regarding consent procedures in a modern context.
Learning outcomes
- Increase knowledge and repertoire in spinal manipulation.
- Increase technique effectiveness with greater adaptability for different body types.
- Understand and apply the T12R® system.
- Reduce fatigue and increase technique efficiency.
- Review consent and safety protocols.
