Webinar overview:

This interactive online workshop for osteopaths offers a deep dive into the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), exploring its structure, function, and its broad systemic relationships. Drawing on osteopathic principles, the session will guide participants through broadened assessment strategies, osteopathic techniques, and clinical considerations. Emphasis will also be placed on facial structure, breathing patterns, and interdisciplinary referrals—giving practitioners a broader context in which to understand and treat TMJ dysfunction.

Learning objectives:

  1. Understand the function and biomechanics of the TMJ, including hinge and translation movements
  2. Recognise structural and functional causes of TMJ dysfunction, including dental, cranial, and postural influences
  3. Apply osteopathic assessment tools, including palpation, motion testing, and cranial evaluations
  4. Explore connections between TMJ dysfunction and systemic issues such as breathing patterns, sinus problems, and head/neck posture
  5. Learn practical osteopathic treatment techniques for the TMJ, surrounding tissues, and related cranial structures
  6. Consider interdisciplinary collaboration with dentists
  7. Reflect on the broader impact of facial structure, tongue posture, and airway function on TMJ health
