Evaluation of pain education e-module

Pain knowledge, attitudes and beliefs of Australian osteopaths before and after completion of a tailored pain education e-module

Acute and chronic pain conditions are the most common presenting complaints in osteopathic practice in Australia. And the prevalence of these pain presentations continues to increase.

The aim of this project is to evaluate Osteopathy Australia’s Pain Management module to assess its value in increasing the understanding of pain and improving attitudes and beliefs towards chronic pain.

Using widely published pain knowledge and attitudes/beliefs questionnaires to determine the change effected by undertaking the module, this project will undertake pre- and post-module evaluation to report changes in pain knowledge, attitudes and beliefs of those undertaking the module. These outcomes will inform a subsequent review of the value of this module.

Research priorities

  • To promote rigorous and critical examination of practice
  • To engage osteopaths in research outcomes that benefit practice safety and effectiveness to facilitate best practice
