While Osteopathy Australia broadly supported many of the recommendations in the MBS review, our submission highlighted the important role osteopaths play in chronic disease management and suggested ways to further improve the quality of care of patients with chronic conditions. We called for allied health case conferencing items to promote equity in case conferencing remuneration for all health practitioners involved in the process, with the ultimate goal of improving coordination of care for patients with complex chronic conditions. We also made recommendations to allow direct referral from allied health to medical specialists for conditions within their scope of practice, and called for reforms to medical imaging referrals which are often a barrier to timely patient care.
